Included in the archive is a Keyboard Layout that remaps the lower
right-hand arrow keys on a std mac keyboard from their usual:
left, right, up, down ==== to ===> left, down, up, right
That's all it does. It took me all of about 15 min (and ate a pack
of junior-mints along the way :-) . I use a mac to telnet to a unix
host where I do most of my work in vi. When I get back to the
mac, (and a real editor like BBEdit :-) I would never use the
arrow keys because they were just "unatural." After hitting
escape for the thirtieth time, and loading a line of code with
'j's, I was as my limit. I grabbed the US keyboard from an archive
off Umich, and hacked this thing out. It took me longer to take
the keyboard apart and change the buttons around :-)
So, If you think that Apple should have put the arrow keys where
Gawd Intended them to me... here ya go.
BTW, I keep hearing this talk about remaping the escape key out
somewhere over the tab key on power-books, the esc key right-there by the spacebar is what makes those telnet sessions using vi such a dream. And even more of a dream now that my arrow-keys work. Give-em a try. You'll be glad you did.
